POWER PARK STADIUM

Project Type

Architecture / Urban Desgin

Location

Lagos, Nigeria

Year

2018

Status

Competition

Power Park transforms the waste landfill of Lagos into a sustainable community park that generates power. The park’s landscape follows the existing landfill topography and is divided into three distinct zones: the Football Stadium, Recreation Belt, and Natural Greens. The Recreation Belt leads to the stadium, evolving into the outer ring and canopy surrounding it. This belt is layered in several ways: the outer edge is home to work/live units for local businesses, while the space between these units and the stadium seating forms a linear bazaar, serving both areas. The remaining portion of the Recreation Belt is designated as Natural Greens, offering spaces for hiking and picnicking. Beneath the park lies a waste-to-energy power plant, which not only sustains the park but also supplies electricity to the city.
